About me: who is behind the game and the potty training guides

I am Zdeny; in Amsterdam's daycares the children call me Juf Zdeni. I am not a paediatrician or a child psychologist. For decades I have worked with babies and toddlers in Dutch daycares and preschools, and I make the potty training game and these guides myself, for free and with love, in the evenings after work.

Why I made a potty training game

At preschool I saw every day that children learn to use the toilet mostly by copying others and by playing. At home, though, parents are often left alone with advice that contradicts itself and a deadline someone promised them. The game gives your child a safe place to try the whole way to the potty with a little friend, and it explains to you what is happening in the body.

Why the game is short, calm and free of rewards

My journey: from the Czech Republic to Amsterdam's daycares

  1. Czech Republic. I grew up with two physically disabled parents. Seeing what someone needs before they ask was my everyday routine. That is where I learned the most important skill of my work.
  2. Education. A secondary school of pedagogy, then an extra year of special-needs education.
  3. First years. I spent several years working with children from socially excluded families in the Czech Republic.
  4. Haarlem. Two years as an au pair were my doorway into the Netherlands.
  5. Amsterdam. For decades I have worked as an invalkracht, a relief educator stepping in at daycares and preschools across Amsterdam. Babies from three months and the peutergroep from two to four, with Amsterdam, immigrant and expat families.
  6. At home. I am a mum of two sons. I know potty training from the other side too.

How I write the guides for parents

  • I describe every method honestly, including its criticism.
  • I rely on expert sources (the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Dutch JGZ guideline, published studies) and link to them on every page.
  • Where research is missing, I say so.
  • The game and the guides on this website are free and I sell you nothing here: no courses, stickers or gadgets. A potty, pants and patience are enough. In my kitchen you will also find my other projects, both paid and free.

What I do not do

I do not give medical advice. If your child has tummy pain, holds in poop, has blood in pee or poop, or is truly scared, please see a doctor. Neither the game nor this website replaces a paediatrician.

Where to find me

I make videos about potty training and raising children on the YouTube channel Raising World Kids. If the website or the game helped you, you make me happiest by subscribing, liking and commenting, watching my videos and sharing them with the people around you.

A game for your child, guidance for you

Your child plays a free potty game: drink, watch the bladder fill up, then hurry to the potty. Meanwhile you know what is happening in the body.
